|Dear Indivisible Group Leader,
Usually, we put your weekly to-do’s here (don’t worry, they’re below!). But this week we want to let you know about a report out of our recent Indivisible Listening Tour on Tuesday, October 3rd at 9pm ET/6pm PT.
No joke, this will serve as the backbone for Indivisible 2.0.
In June of this year, our Organizing team set out to speak to hundreds of group leaders to get a better sense of what’s happening in groups all across the country — the best practices you’ve developed, challenges you’re facing, and ways we can support you better. After four months and more than 360 inspiring conversations with group leaders, we’ve put together our report out of the Listening Tour.
We spent days reading through the responses to identify common themes, pull out innovations, and better understand the support you need. We’re thrilled to share what we learned and roll out a suite of new tools, trainings, and electoral resources in response to your feedback. Please join us on Tuesday, October 3rd at 9pm ET for our listening tour report out.
Starting next week, you can expect new tools and resources coming from our Organizing team like fundraising support, recommendations on how to structure your local group, and our local candidate endorsement guide. We want to make sure that you, Indivisible group leaders, are the first to hear about these developments and have the chance to ask questions and provide feedback.
When: Tuesday, October 3rd at 9pm ET/6pm PT
What: A special conversation about this summer’s Listening Tour with group leaders across the country
Who: Indivisible group leaders and Organizing Director Isaac Bloom
RSVP for the conversation here.
Once you register for the webinar, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a link to join via video on Tuesday evening. If you’re unable to join by computer, there’ll be a toll-free number in your email as well and we’ll share the presentation after the webinar. All group leaders are welcome — if you know of a group leader who has not received this email, forward this email and link to them. Space is limited, however, so this particular webinar is meant just for group leadership.
As always, feel free to provide feedback directly to email@example.com too, either before or after the webinar.
Fight systemic oppression and white supremacy
You asked for it and we listened. One of our takeaways from the Listening Tour was that you want more trainings, opportunities to share best practices on organizing, or to discuss topics that will contextualize our work in the broader movement space.
For our first event, we’ll dive into a conversation about systemic oppression, white supremacy, and how these forces show up in our lives and in our organizing.
We’ll hear from special guest Chris Crass, who will talk about systemic oppression and white supremacy, and how these forces show up in our lives. There will be room for questions and discussion at the end.
When: Thursday, October 5th at 8pm ET/5pm PT
What: Webinar on fighting systemic oppression and white supremacy
Who: Indivisible Group Leaders and anti-racism trainer Chris Crass
RSVP for the conversation here.

This week, we’ll discuss the latest details of Trump’s Tax Scam and how you can stop this bill just like you stopped TrumpCare!
This week on Capitol Hill
After nine months of fighting TrumpCare, we can finally say that we’ve killed the bill. To be sure, Republicans may keep trying to resurrect the bill, so we have to remain vigilant. But you stopped Trump’s number one policy priority. That’s a huge deal.
Now, the Tax fight is on. Republicans are already gearing up for the next big fight: Trump’s Tax Plan (or as we like to call it on our new website, the Trump Tax Scam). This week, the White House unveiled a six-page draft of a tax scam framework, building off their one page memo from this spring. Republicans are, once again, trying to ram this bill through using the budget reconciliation process just like they did with TrumpCare. Here’s what you need to know:
- The first step is the budget resolution. The House will vote on its budget resolution on Thursday and the Senate will mark up its resolution Wednesday and Thursday. Here’s the bottom line: these budgets cut critical services and would force deep cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security down the road. All to give massive tax cuts to the rich and corporations.
Congress must pass an emergency relief package for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It is unconscionable that our government has failed to give the people of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands (U.S. Citizens!) the same attention as it did the victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. See our explainer and ask your Member of Congress to provide an emergency relief package for the victims of Hurricane Maria and to permanently rescind the Jones Act, an antiquated law that has made it difficult for supplies to reach the Island of Puerto Rico.
Trump’s foreign policy blunders are endangering us all
With each day in office, Donald Trump actively makes our country less safe. From his tweets to his bluster to his white supremacist policies, Trump poses a risk to us all. On a weekly basis in these emails, we’ll report out the significant ways this Administration is making us less safe. Here’s this week’s #TrumpThreatLevel:
- Escalating tensions with North Korea. Trump continued to tweet insults and threats at North Korea, including a threat that North Korea “won’t be around much longer.” North Korea responded by saying it considers these statements to be a “declaration of war.” A war with North Korea would be devastating and completely unnecessary. But instead of diffusing the situation, Trump is making it worse.
- Slashing Refugees Admitted into U.S. On Wednesday, the Trump administration decided to slash the maximum amount of refugees allowed into the U.S. down to the lowest level in decades. This shows our international partners that we can’t be counted upon to help solve the global refugee crisis, contributes to right-wing fearmongering about refugees, and inflames racial tensions.
- Expanded Muslim Ban. On Monday, Trump’s administration issued another version of his hateful and unconstitutional Muslim ban, this time with a blatant attempt to escape court scrutiny by throwing in a couple of non-Muslim-majority countries into the list. We’re not fooled: a ban is a ban. The ban emboldening bigots in the U.S. and stokes anti-American sentiment abroad. Join us and our partners on 10/18 to declare: #NoMuslimBanEver.
Congrats on the huge, historic win against TrumpCare. Thank you, as always, for standing Indivisible with us. Let’s keep winning.
