Candidates Lining Up For WA 8th District

October 2, 2017

This is a good district to flip! This district is gerrymandered but leaning Democratic currently.

David Riechart has announced he will not run for re-election in 2018. It turns out that 2018 is a really good time for GOP congress to retire. The Democrats have had an eye on the WA 8th district for a long time and 2018 may be the year to flip it to Democrats.

2018 is expected to be a wave election because of Donald Trump and his far right views. He is not the president of all Americans and it is not even disguised.

This information is fluid and Changes

Progressive Ways will be following these candidates and will be posting what we find. The following people are lining up to run:

Dr Shannon Hader -D

Shannon is the 5th generation in her family to call this region home. Born and raised locally. Shannon grew up on her great grandfather’s farm land in Auburn. Her father is a Navy Veteran who served as an aircraft mechanic. Later, he spent his professional career as a Boeing employee. Her mother taught dance, fitness and arts at community and senior centers, where she still volunteers.

Shannon graduated from Auburn High School and went on to Stanford University, becoming the first of her family to graduate from a four-year university. She earned her medical degree from Columbia University. Shannon completed a residency in medicine and pediatrics at Duke University Medical Center and an infectious diseases fellowship at Emory University.

Armed with that world-class education, Shannon joined the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer, later serving in Atlanta, Zimbabwe, and Washington, DC – but she always knew Auburn was home. Most recently, Shannon was the Director of the Division of Global HIV & TB at the United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention. She led a team of nearly 2,000 people across 45 countries, responsible for an annual budget of about $2.4 billion.

Now, Shannon is running for Congress to ensure that her home community benefits from a government that works for them. Shannon is ready to take her years of experience, proven track record and love of this community and its people with her to Congress.

Dr Kim Schrier -D

I am the daughter of an elementary school teacher and an aerospace engineer. I have been a pediatrician in Issaquah for 16 years, and I am committed to my community. Since the age of 16 when I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, I have understood what it means to worry about health and health insurance. I believe that healthcare is a right, not a privilege. My family and friends span the political spectrum, and I’ve spent my life bridging divides. I have been fortunate to benefit from excellent public primary and secondary education, including my degrees in Astrophysics and medicine. I met my husband, David, at our 10-year high school reunion, and we teach our 8-year-old son, Sam, how important it is to stand up for things that matter and pursue a life of purpose.
