“The most heroic word in all languages is revolution.”

– Eugene V. Debs

This year, everyday people turned out to vote progressive candidates into office. Grassroots campaigns across the country fearlessly took on the political establishment. Our Revolution’s endorsed candidates, many of whom were running for the first time, won up and down the ballot.

A Revolutionary Reason to Vote

Here are just a few of the newly elected local officials who are changing politics as we know it:

Historic Voter Turnout

It is no accident that more than 110 million people cast a ballot in the 2018 midterm election, the highest voter turnout in a midterm since 1966. These record numbers are a direct result of the grassroots organizing by hundreds of thousands of Our Revolution members who are building local, independent political power in their communities.

Texting to Victory

Peer-to-peer texting is an integral tool for strengthening organizing efforts like Get Out The Vote and increasing civic engagement among our supporters. From helping voters find their polling place to connecting members of the community with local group meetings, our team of volunteers works year-round to strengthen and build this grassroots movement.

So far this year, our volunteers have sent 4.3 million text messages to Our Revolution supporters for candidates, events, and activities with the goal of increasing civic participation.

Text For Our Revolution also trained and supported dozens of texting campaigns for local groups. These campaigns centered around membership activities, such as town halls and membership meetings in California, New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, Georgia, Alaska, Montana, Illinois, and Michigan.

A note on hard-fought campaigns

The success of an election is not always measured by the number of votes for a given candidate on election night. The grassroots campaigns behind Ben Jealous, Stacey Abrams, and Andrew Gillum transformed their communities for the better and softened the soil for a new generation of progressive leaders. Win, lose, or draw, thank you to all who have pushed our movement forward.

Medicare for All National Strategy Call

We came together with progressive organizations across the country to discuss how we can pass Medicare for All in the House of Representatives. We were joined by Senator Bernie Sanders, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, Our Revolution President Nina Turner, National Nurses United Executive Director Bonnie Castillo, and others to develop a national strategy.

Political Director David Duhalde represented Our Revolution in Sweden. He presented Our Revolution’s work on the U.S. midterms and discussed building progressive political alternatives amid the rise of right-wing populism worldwide.

The Revolution is Growing on Campuses across Texas

Our Revolution Central Texas

Our Revolution Central Texas joined with the Texas College Democrats at their Winter Convention. College student representatives from across the state learned more about Our Revolution, signed up to join our movement, and are bringing the revolution to their respective campuses.

Our Revolution Metro Denver is Spreading Holiday Cheer

Our Revolution Metro Denver

Our Revolution Metro Denver headed into the holiday season by organizing a community event where they created non-religious, non-political, holiday cards for youth who are incarcerated in a facility in Illinois and for inmates in Colorado.
